About

I travel, therefore I am.

Of course, this statement is part wishful thinking, part aspiration, part goal and only one part true.

Granted I have been to 26 countries and counting, but I do have a job that requires me to stay put at least some of the time, so i stay put complacently, and look forward to my next trip. And while I wait, I satisfy my travel cravings with very frequent trips between New York and Miami, and take an occasional drive down to Key West.

My name is Gina, I am a freelance wardrobe stylist and I do lots of fun advertising and editorial gigs, and often work on cool locations with a pretty diverse and interesting set of characters. I was born in Ukraine, and my parents took my brother and I, and ran away to New York when I was 14. On the way to NY, we lived in the Austrian alps for about a month, and in Italy for close to a year. I think that is what got me going on my life long travel mission. Living in Italy was such an amazing experience, and of course coming to NY at the age of 15 was a whirlwind adventure comparable only, in my girlish imagination to falling down a rabbit hole, and what usually follows… I was hooked. Hooked on discovering new cultures, constantly being exposed to new stimuli, new food, the people I met along the way on this journey, and the stories they shared. After living in NY for many years, we moved to Miami, where  I currently reside with my lovely yoga instructor husband (one of the benefits of being married to him is that he gets to travel a whole lot for work, and I get to tag along, yay!) In addition to this very important factor he is a wonderful human being, and we are very much in love.

I always get surges of inspiration in airports. I take pride in being a savvy traveler- I have learned the metropolitan systems in large cities in a matter of hours, on my first day of arrival, have found some pretty remote and very beautiful sights, out of the way local restaurants that were unbelievably good, have been once kicked off the train in Brest for not having a transit visa, and managed to find the director of the visa agency, who was on a fishing trip, and convince him to come into the office on a Sunday and issue me a visa. But that is a whole other story, which I can share one day if you like .

This blog is about my travel experiences past and current, about discovering new places in my own city, and breathing fresh life into the familiar. In my travels I like to experience everything, and my stories are often funny, sometimes outrageous and sometimes just revolve around restaurant recommendations. I will write about hiking to a remote lagoon of incomparable beauty, to fine dining, to the opposite of fine dining (like tacos from the street vendor) to shopping, accommodations, sightseeing,  architecture, beaches, random things, nightlife and everything in between. I hope my posts will help you in your travels, or at the very least mildly entertain you.
